The Spider

Posted on September 20, 2017March 4, 2018 by juliamd

“That’s no Brooklyn spider!” I thought.

When an extra moment, another question, a chat about a spider brings the truth.

Read all about it in my latest piece in Academic Medicine – a short but memorable lesson from the ward when I was a medical student

If you’d rather listen than read, you can hear it here.

Thank you for your post, Julia. It reminded me of a long forgotten incident. I borrowed a book from my sixth grade elementary school teacher’s desk without asking, and received a lesson, too, regarding the perils of “assuming” it was alright. She wrote the word “assume” on the chalk board and broke it down , saying: “To assume is to make an ASS of U and ME” I earned a detention after school and had to write the phrase multiple times while I served my sentence.

Yes, always ask…we don’t know each other’s minds.
